Tongue and Lip Ties
Characteristics and considerations for children with ankyloglossia undergoing frenulectomy for dysphagia and aspiration. (2020)
Posterior tongue tie: The internet phenomenon driving a lucrative private industry. (2020)
Comparison of frenotomy techniques for the treatment of ankyloglossia in children: a systematic review. (2020)
Significance of the tethered maxillary frenulum: a questionnaire-based observational cohort study. (2020)
Recently, a group of ENT surgeons stated the need to approach surgical intervention for posterior tongue-tie and lip-tie with caution due to little evidence to support it's relationship with function during speech or feeding. There is also little research suggesting one method of surgery works better than another for tongue-tie revision (laser vs. clip.) However, there is a possibility that tongue-tie may contribute to aspiration in a small number of pediatrics. It has been recommended to use conventional therapies (speech therapy, etc.) first when a tongue or lip tie has been detected.
Importance of Play
Teaching object play to young children with disabilities: A systematic review of methods and rigor. (2020)
“Play is a critical intervention goal and should be intentionally taught using evidence-based practice."
Many young children with disabilities don’t learn play skills as naturally as typically developing children do, but play skills are prerequisites to language development.
Evidence supports adult modeling for improving pretend play in children with disabilities.
Speech Generating Technology
Augmentative and Alternative Communication and Speech Production for Individuals with ASD: A Systematic Review (2021)
AAC doesn’t hinder spoken language development in autistic children, it helps.
Childhood Apraxia of Speech
Bang for your buck: A single-case experimental design study of practice amount and distribution in treatment for childhood apraxia of speech (2019)
This article reviews the optimal conditions for Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) treatment:

Childhood Apraxia of Speech
Bang for your buck: A single-case experimental design study of practice amount and distribution in treatment for childhood apraxia of speech (2019)
This article reviews the optimal conditions for Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) treatment:
- More therapy generally led to greater gains, unsurprisingly.
- Practicing many trials of target words in a short period practice led to greater improvement and maintenance of target words for most children.
- Tactile (touch) cues
- Slowed rate of speech
- Gradual fading of cues (help from speech therapist)
- Focus on whole-target movement accuracy
